About me

c'est moi!I’m Kara, a stay at home mom of 3 kiddos: Link, Astro, and Pink.   I’ve been married to The Man for almost 16 years.

If someone asked me a few years ago, I would NEVER have considered homeschooling.  I was one of those people who just didn’t get WHY I would possibly homeschool when there is a school I can send them to!  In 2009 or so, The Man and I started looking into it casually – it was still not on my radar as something that I really wanted to do.  I researched and found that it was something I COULD do, if necessary, but I still didn’t WANT to.

Fast forward to late summer of 2010, when we were happily putting our two boys into the local school, (where we had a wonderful experience and great teachers, just so you know!) when I woke up in the middle of the night one night with the knowledge that We Should homeschool our kids.  I also immediately WANTED to homeschool our kids.  Now, I can’t say that’s divine intervention or that God was talking to me, but it sure was sudden.  (And we had no qualms whatsoever about placing our kids in the school system either, so don’t go thinking it was some stress induced panic!  :D)

I borrowed The Well-Trained Mind from a friend and LOVED it!!!  It was perfect.  I soon bought my own copy and began marking it up and planning to homeschool starting that next fall.  Over the course of the year as things began coming together and plans were finalized, I got more and more thrilled and excited by this new life we were starting.

We started school July 18, 2011 and have never looked back.  We now have a few years under our belt and are rolling right along comfortably.  It’s not always easy – there are always things being switched up, changed, or just modified to fit our needs.  BUT overall it’s a decision that I’m very happy we made!

We homeschool too, and I agree! The well trained mind is a great book.
